The road to exfolicare . . .
On June 5, 2003 my husband Dave was assaulted.
He was sucker punched in an unprovoked attack. The punch knocked him out causing him to hit his head on the ground resulting in a brain injury. Dave had to have part of his skull removed. After 5 weeks in a coma...we started the recovery process. While wearing a helmet, he had to learn to walk, to talk, to see, to eat....all over again. All those things we take for granted every day. He's a walking miracle. The link below is an article written about Dave in more detail:

After a year of recovery, still suffering with short term memory loss, Dave did go back to work for a period of time, so I started crafting on the weekends. Thus evolved, exfolifeet, and then the "brand" exfolicare (which is now Trademarked).
Because we felt living in Michigan was keeping Dave from recovering further, I needed to move him back to where he had lived the bulk of his adult life (Maui). Since moving us to Maui, Dave has recovered quite a bit of his memory. It truly is a "beautiful" place to live!!!
We are grateful for the support we received during the early stages of our recovery. Resources were available to us during an extremely stressful time. The Brain Trauma Foundation is a very important cause for us. Portions of our proceeds are donated to this foundation so we can continue to give back to help others in need. If you would like to make a donation to the Brain Trauma Foundation, please do so. Any amount is appreciated. MAHALO!
